Thomas Howard probably migrated from North Carolina to Wilkes County, Georgia.
Most, if not all, of his 8 children settled in southeastern Kentucky. It is widely accepted
that Thomas married a Cherokee Indian named Letty Durham born in Wilkes County,
Georgia but I haven't found actual verification of that. His son, Thomas, did have a
daughter named Letty which lends some credence to this story but doesn't really
prove anything.

Thomas Howard's children were as follows:
Thomas - married Frances Jackson; lived in Morgan County, Kentucky
James - married Elizabeth Green; lived in Breathitt & Perry Counties, Kentucky
John "War Jack" - married Mary Risner; lived in Knox & Harlan Counties, Kentucky
Benjamin - married Phoebe Slusher; lived in Harlan County, Kentucky
Julida - married Phillip Slusher
William - married Mary Salyer; lived in Breathitt County, Kentucky
Elizabeth - married Stephen Arnett

Family lore says that Thomas was killed by Indians but it is unclear where this may
have occurred. At least some of his sons lived in Russell County, Virginia before 1800.
