Who was Thomas Howard's wife and mother of his son, John "War Jack"? Who were Thomas Howard's
parents?
Thomas Howard probably migrated from North Carolina to Wilkes County, Georgia. Most, if not all, of his 8
children settled in southeastern Kentucky. It is widely accepted that Thomas married a Cherokee Indian
named Letty Durham who was born in Wilkes County, Georgia but I haven't found actual verification of that.
His son, Thomas, did have a daughter named Letty which lends some credence to this story but doesn't
really prove anything.
Family lore says that Thomas was killed by Indians but it is unclear where this may have occurred. At least
some of his sons lived in Russell County, Virginia before 1800. Nothing is known about Thomas' parents.
