John E. Goodloe lived in Hopkins County, Kentucky all of his life. He married Eliza Ann Dobyns 5 Oct 1836. They had four children (Isabella Jane, Elizabeth, Mary Waller and Thomas Henry). Eliza died between 1846 - 1848. After the death of Eliza Ann, Jack Goodloe married Elizabeth Pettus on 2 Jan 1849 in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky. They had 2 children (Emsley and Virginia).

• 1860 United States Federal Census, John E. Goodloe household, Hopkins County, Kentucky: Jack was living in Madisonville with his 2nd wife, Elizabeth, their son, Emsley and daughter, Virgina and John's son from his 1st marriage, Thomas. Jack was listed as a farmer, age 49, born in Kentucky. ²⁹⁰⁰

Goodloe household, Hopkins County, Kentucky: Jack & his 2nd wife, Elizabeth, were living in Precinct #2 with their children, Emsley & Virginia and his son, Thomas. Jack was listed as a farmer, age 59, born in Kentucky. He owned real property valued at $2000 and personal property valued at $1000. Jack's daughter, Janie Hankins, and her children were listed next to them. ²⁹⁰³

• 1880 United States Federal Census, John E. Goodloe household, Hopkins County, Kentucky: Jack was living with his wife, Elizabeth. He was listed as a farmer, age 69, born in Kentucky. Their son, Emsley and daughter, Virginia were both living nearby. ²⁹⁸⁴

Uncle Jack Goodloe, who lived near Grapevine, died Monday, and was buried at Grapevine Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Goodloe was one of the old citizens of the county and is well known by all our older citizens. For several years past he has been an invalid. He was a brother of Uncle Kemp Goodloe and Uncle Henry Goodloe. He was a member of Grapevine church for a long period.

• Newspaper Clipping: Published in 1909, probably in the Madisonville Messenger, Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky: ²⁹⁸⁵ Rev. W. H. Moore [John's son-in-law] wrote the following about John E. Goodloe in "A Stroll Through Grapevine Cemetery": "Uncle Jack with the disposition of gentleness, full of kindness, all the children of the community loved him. A man of very deep piety, always ready to reprove and admonish in a kind way that made one feel that it was done by a friend for good; everybody was his friend."

Jack married Eliza Ann DOBYNS, daughter of Edward DOBYNS and Sarah "Sally" MOTT, on 5 October 1836 in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky.²⁹⁷⁸ (Eliza Ann DOBYNS died bet. 1846 and 1848 ²⁹⁸⁶.)
