• 1880 United States Federal Census, Lee Hankins household, Hopkins County, Kentucky: Lee, Samantha and their son Dick were living in Earlington. She was listed as Amantha Hankins, wife, age 18, born in Kentucky (although she was actually born in Georgia). ¹⁴⁸²

• 1900 United States Federal Census, Lee Hankins household, Hopkins County, Kentucky: Samantha was living with her husband and 5 children. She was listed as Manthus Hankins, wife, age 39, born Apr 1861 in Georgia, married for 21 years, mother of 6 children, 5 living. ²⁸¹³

• 1910 United States Federal Census, Tom L. Hankins household, Hopkins County, Kentucky: Samantha was living with her husband and 3 youngest sons. She was listed as Samantha A. Hankins, wife, age 49, born in Georgia, married 30 years, mother of 7 children, 6 living. ¹⁵⁰²

• 1920 United States Federal Census, Tom Hankins household, Hopkins County, Kentucky: Samantha was living with her husband, Lee, and son, Jimmy, on McEuen Ave in Earlington. She was listed as Samantha Hankins, wife, age 58, born in Georgia. ²⁸⁰⁶

• 1930 United States Federal Census, Samantha Hankins household, Hopkins County, Kentucky: Samantha and 2 of her grandchildren, Helen and Jewel, were living at 704 W. Broadway in Madisonville. She was listed as age 69. [Note: The houses on Broadway have apparently been renumbered since Lee & Samantha lived there. As of 2005, the house where they had lived was numbered 440.]. ²⁸¹⁴

• Newspaper Clipping: ca. 1943 ²⁸¹⁵ Two newspaper clippings about Samantha and a Civil War era train engine named the Texas. Samantha had seen the Texas as a child in Georgia during the Civil War and saw the engine again on a visit to Atlanta, Georgia when she was 81 years old. Also included are childhood memories about her father's service in the Civil War and other family information.

One article was probably from the Madisonville Messenger, the other was from an unknown Georgia newspaper.

1893 - Jan 5, to visit wife, $1.50, paid $1.50; Jan 7, to visit wife, $1.50; Oct 27, credit by cash, $1.50; Dec 22, to visit wife (Obst), $5.00. [This obstetrics visit would have been to deliver John.] Dec 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, to visit child, $1.50 on each visit.
1897 - June 3, to visit wife, $1.50.
1901 - Feb 6, to visit wife, $1.50; Mar 27, to visit wife (Obst), $7.50, and credit by cash $1.00 and by hauling coal, $5.00. [This obstetrics visit would have been to deliver Jimmy.]
1908 - Jan 1, $22.50; Dec 24, credit by cash, $5.00.

• Residence: Dalton, Hopkins County, Kentucky. ²⁸⁰⁸ Sometime between 1880 and 1891, Lee & Samantha moved from Earlington to Dalton. The exact date is unknown but they were living in Dalton in 1891 when their daughter, Aggie Lee, died and was buried there.

Lee Hankins, of Dalton, Ky., a brother of Sheriff Hankins, has moved to this place and will reside here in the future. Mr. Hankins was a substantial citizen of Dalton and made many friends while there. We welcome him to Earlington.

Mr. Lee Hankins is having a new house put up towards Earlington.

The obituary of Lee's mother, Isabella Jane DeVault lists Lee as living in Daniel Boone.

• Residence: 1910, Magistrial District #3, Hopkins County, Kentucky. ¹⁵⁰² According to the 1910 census, Lee and Samantha were in Mag. Dist. #3. It is unclear exactly where in Hopkins County that was.

• Residence: bef. 1929, West Broadway, Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky. ²⁸¹² When Lee died in 1929, they were living on West Broadway in Madisonville so they moved there sometime between 3 Jan 1920 (when the census was taken) and 23 Apr 1929. The house number at that time and when Samantha died in 1944 was 704. In 2005, there were no structures in what would be the 700 block of W. Broadway. Lee & Samantha's house had been renumbered 440.
