Elijah L Hopkins, 84, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Wednesday May 14th at the Rockcastle County Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Harlan County on August 8, 1890, the son of the late Jim and Lucinda Howard Hopkins ans was a member of the Non-Denominational Church.

He is survived by four sons, Wade, Bearl and John Hopkins of Mt. Vernon and Earl Hopkins of Lexington; one daughter, Miss Irene Hopkins of Mt. Vernon; five brothers, Henry Hopkins of Detroit, Michigan, Berry Hopkins of Flint, Michigan, Elmer Hopkins of Loyall, Dock Hopkins of Chicago, Illinois and Lum Hopkins of Blandchester [sic], Ohio; one sister, Miss Lula Hopkins of Tampa, Florida; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Dowell and Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Dummit and Rev. John Crewes officiating. Interment was in the Maretburg Cemetery.
